Supporting the parents behind every pupil
We work with your school to give parents and carers private, practical support in their WhatsApp, day or night, when a pupil is struggling with their mental health.
Two ways we support your parents
An AI coach in each parent’s own WhatsApp, and qualified professionals when they want one.

Their own Coach, in WhatsApp
- What to say when they’re out of ideas.
- What to do next when their child needs them most.
- A space to reflect on what’s happened and plan for next time.

Real experts, in their corner
- Support for parents, when supporting their child is wearing them down.
- Answers and reassurance that only a professional can give.
- Practical help with planning, priorities and talking it through at home.
Parents want to help, but many aren’t sure how
of parents say they would benefit from a guide to help them approach difficult topics.
have avoided conversations because they are unsure what to say.

When parents don’t know what to say, your staff feel it
More pressure
The Coach gives parents guidance on what to say and do.
One former safeguarding lead told us the caseload he took on a decade ago now arrives in half an hour on a school morning.
Stretched time
The Coach is there day or night, without your staff on call.
Tutors already stay late for parents.
Hardest to reach
The Coach is private, in each parent’s own WhatsApp.
Shame and fear of judgement keep many of the parents under most strain away from school events.
Our thesis: a parent who feels supported, not overwhelmed, notices sooner and comes to you earlier, whilst it’s still small.
Why you can trust Youmi
Safeguarding and privacy
Private from your school, and safeguarding comes first.
Private from your school: You are not told who has signed up, and you do not see individual conversations.
Safeguarding comes first: If a conversation raises a safeguarding concern, the Clinical Lead, or their deputy when the Clinical Lead is away or the post is vacant, decides every disclosure, and only relevant personal data that is necessary to help protect the at-risk individual is shared.
Who hears, and when: A disclosure goes to the contacts you name. Flagged messages get an automated safety response, and a clinician reviews them by the end of the next working day.
Not therapy, and not a crisis service: The Coach sits alongside your own safeguarding procedures, not in place of them.
Read our privacy policy, including how we use AI.
Clinical expertise
Who leads it: Dr Georgie Gnan, our co-founder, leads our clinical and safeguarding team.
The right standards: We’re building Youmi to medical device standards, towards Class I registration with the MHRA and to meet NHS DTAC.
The team behind Youmi
A decade each in product management and mental health interventions.
Louis Allen, Co-Founder and CEO: A decade in product management at Sky and Warner Bros. Discovery. He has lived experience on both sides of this problem.
Dr Georgie Gnan, Co-Founder and CSO: A decade designing mental health interventions at King’s College London and UCL. She holds a Visiting Research Fellowship in the AI in Mental Health Lab at King’s.
What supporters tell us
of our first 100 users noticed an improvement in their own ability to support the person they care about.
It feels like there is someone holding your hand
We’re early, and honest about that: these are signals, not proof.
Questions schools ask
Is there a permanent record of conversations?
No. We delete conversation content 12 months after the parent’s last activity. A small number of records are kept longer, such as the record of a safeguarding disclosure, as our privacy policy sets out.
Are conversations used to train AI?
We don’t use them to train any model, and nor does our AI provider. We improve the Coach using anonymised data only.
What agreements do we sign?
A service agreement, and a data sharing agreement for safeguarding disclosures. Youmi and your school are separate, independent controllers.
The school’s role: The school shapes the audience, determines nothing about Youmi’s processing, and passes no personal data.
What if a parent wants to stop?
They can contact us directly, through our website or at privacy@youmisupport.com. If they ask your school instead, the school points them to us.
